foot monthly

March 09
Hello

Welcome to March's edition of Foot Monthly; our monthly newsletter keeping you up-to-date on all the latest foot products and treatments. Please add footmonthly@supplefeet.com to your address book to ensure you receive our newsletter.

We are looking forward to the start of Spring and looking at literally putting a spring in your step. Children have three forms of movement: walking, running and skipping. We lose this ability as we grow older and so it is a good  time to remember how important it is to walk barefoot whenever possible.

There is a ligament deep within the foot that is known as the spring ligament. It forms a vital piece of support and structure on the underside of the heel bone area extending into the arches of the feet, rather like the underside of a carriage! Any problems with this area causes foot pain, often in the heel area so, on this most painful of foot problems, we shall shine some light.

And finally, I have had my own foot corrected! My right Supplefoot is now stable thanks to the Hyprocure™ stent inserted under the ankle bone. I am delighted and have much to say on the matter as you can imagine.

My blog at emmasupple.blogspot.com is growing and I would welcome your comments.  You can also now keep in touch with us via our group on Facebook.

If you have any foot problems you would like answering then please get in touch, or why not book an appointment to see our clinicians at our Enfield clinic , 020 8367 9292. I hope you enjoy this issue.

Kind Regards,
emma supple

Heel Pain - Very Painful

This is an often very painful, condition that affects one or both heels. It used to be known as a heel spur and although it is a good description of the pain felt, it is not directly related to the bone itself whether or not the spur is present.

Plantar fasciitus is the other term used to describe heel pain. This relates to the thick tendon that supports the underside of the foot.  The origin of this thick, immensely important, tendon is from the heel bone and it inserts via 5 separate slips into the tips of toes; rather like a supporting hand.

Miss Supple's new foot with the Hyprocure™

Subtalar arthroeresis is hard to spell but is the procedure I now fully advocate to be considered for those of us with hyperpronation or supple feet!

I have always had wobbly, supple feet and have had to wear high heels just to keep me stable. This is because the arches of my feet have always been hypermobile and hyperpronated.

I am now three weeks post operative the Hyprocure™ implant. I have committed to having a stable, no excessive flattening arch of the foot and it feels great. Thanks to Dr Michael Graham in Detroit for designing the implant and performing the surgery.

Shoe of the Month - Dance Shoes

At Supplefeet we love shoes but are not blinded by branding. We want shoes to elevate and lift not just our spirits but our whole sense of well being and we cannot do that if the shoes are so high we cannot walk, let alone dance.

Famous Miss Supple quote: "Do not be the person dancing barefoot because you have too; but because you want to!"

Dance Shoe - an excellent alternative to slippersDance shoes are the non-branded, not heavily advertised, Rolls Royce of shoes. They give you spring in your step, are designed to move, have a flexible insole and come in divine colours and styles.

Dance Shoe with split soleAll you have to do is choose the style, remember your perfect heel height and get a cobbler to put on an outside sole to make them versatile. This way you get a shoe with a perfect heel height, heels that sit centrally under your natural plumb line and strapped on to avoid over pressure on the ball of the foot.

I have been experimenting with the dancer shoes for practice (above right). They are split across the sole, have a small heel and are now my "slipper" or house shoe of choice.
