MBTs

These shoes are based on observations on how we walk when not wearing shoes. MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology and the shoes are designed to mimic the natural heel to toe spring that we should be walking through every day. We have concreted over our walkways and the flat surfaces we encounter everyday are taking their toll on our human bodies.

These shoes are marketed as instability shoes and are not for everyone. They are great though for many and assist a natural forward motion through the feet.

I advocate them and wear them because they do three things at once:

  1. Vary the ground on which we walk. This is age old advice and really asks you to walk on soft, hilly, uneven ground whenever you can to get the best exercise to your feet. Clearly this is not an option for all of us all of the time.
  2. Vary your heel height. The MBT does this by having a heel zone that squashes down on impact and therefore acts as a negative heel which creates this full stretch of the hamstrings and calf muscle complex.
  3.  Reduce the pressure going through your forefoot. The MBT does this by rolling through the final part of the walking cycle and this lessens pressure at the big toe, takes pressure off any hard skin build up and helps reduce forefoot pressures.

Those three facts and the obvious one of getting you out walking and moving which is the single most efficient way to keep you fit and well is why we recommend them.

“Black trouser syndrome.”

I can climb on lots of soapboxes and this is definitely one of them.
Ladies: If you are wearing a pair of black trousers then that is your opportunity to wear a clumpy shoe! Keep your high heels for skirts and dresses and do not waste the chance when able to wear a shoe that provides comfort to your feet.

So many women wear high heels under trousers when that is your chance to put on a pair of comfy shoes or  black MBTs, be fashion forward, exercise those core muscles and move around in comfort and in style!

I want to start a campaign that any woman wearing a skirt suit be banned from wearing trainers! At least put on a pair of MBTs  to show you understand how feet really work and get a core stability workout at the same time!

And finally, foot pain is not normal so see a Supplefeet Podiatrist to get a full assessment and to sort out your
foot problems and concerns  - 020 8367 9292.
