The Pain of High Heels

I have a male friend who has no sympathy for women who wear heels, then complain about the pain. “Take a Nurofen”, he says advocating a Limo lifestyle, never having to walk far himself in high heels.

He has a point but those of us who wear stilettos know that we like them and like the effect they have on our legs! They make us sway, feel thinner and sexier than without them, a powerful combination.

Things you can do to help:
1. Look for high heels that sit under the plumb line of the heel. i.e. no heels at odd angles from the ground.
2. A strap or a bar is always helpful just to keep the foot into the shoe and less pressure t the front.
3. Use 9 to 5 slim insoles for added comfort (available online from Supplefeet)
4. Don’t walk too far or for too long in them.

More practical than the painkiller/limo option is to carry comfy shoes and change when you can’t bear the agony any more.

One company we recommend is Pretty Ballerina who have designed lovely fold-up pumps, they are chic and discreet and will fit into a handbag (www.prettyballerinas.com).
