Surgery at Supplefeet

At Supplefeet the aim is “complete footcare” and sometimes conservative or palliative care is not sufficient to resolve foot problems and these need to be sorted out by surgery.

We can provide all types of foot surgery. Miss Supple is a foot specialist and a Podiatric Surgeon. She undertakes corrective foot surgery which includes the surgical correction of bunions, misshapen toes and removal of neuromas (trapped nerves).

Electro surgery to remove stubborn verrucae and ingrowing toenail surgery using local anaesthetic are routine procedures carried out in the clinics by our Podiatrists.

We also work in partnership with Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and other Consultant Podiatric Surgeons and Surgical teams to offer the best service to individual patients and requirements.

Nail Surgery

Condition: Ingrowing Toenail
Length of Operation: 15 mins, allow 45 minutes at the clinic.
Recovery time: immediate walking, best to go home and put your feet up.

Our most common and routine procedure; using local anaesthetic, the toe is numbed to allow the part of the toenail that is ingrowing to be removed. At Supplefeet we use a process called phenolisation to prevent the nail growing back. This is a highly effective procedure to resolve painful ingrowing toenails.

Cost of nail surgery at Supplefeet
£210 for one toenail
£230 for two toenails.

Initial consultation and treatment is £53 where we will attempt to resolve the painful nail immediately using our podiatric skills. If you go onto toenail surgery within 2 months then this initial fee is deducted from the overall fee.

This includes all your dressings, follow ups and the ingrowing toenail surgery. And if there is any need for further revision surgery in 6 months then this is undertaken at no additional cost to you.

Electro Surgery

Condition: Persistent Verrucae
Length of Operation: 15 mins, allow an hour at the clinic
Recovery time: allow at least two weeks for the skin on the bottom of the foot to heal, so gently does it for a fortnight.

For stubborn or particularly painful verrucae (viral infections on the feet) the lesions are removed surgically. The foot is numbed using local anaesthetic and the warty verrucae removed.

HyproCure™ - Cure Hyperpronation

Condition: Hyperpronation
Length of Operation: 15 minutes. Allow two hours at the surgical facility.
Recovery time: immediate limited walking, in a post operative shoe.

The subtalar arthroeresis is a procedure undertaken on local anaesthetic to manage flatfoot. More information on this procedure is available on www.hyperpronation.com.

Bunion Surgery

Condition: Hallux Valgus
Length of Operation: 1 hour
Recovery time: initially 2 weeks of limited walking in a post operative shoe. Followed by 4 weeks in a sports shoe. Gradual return to normal footwear.

Bunions are known by their clinical term as hallux valgus. The complete reason as to why they occur is not yet fully understood. What we do know is that they are generally inherited and made worse by certain types of footwear.

Once conservative treatment has been tried, (shoe changes, insoles and protective padding) then surgical correction can be considered. The bunion is corrected by a osteotomy usually fixated by screws inside the bone as it heals (internal fixation). A commonly utilised procedure is the scarf/akin osteotomy.

Don't want surgery just yet?
Try:

  • Orthofits can help take the pressure off the bunion in shoes
  • Interpods
  • Bunion night splints are useful for relieving pain in early, flexible bunions
  • Beech sandals; they straighten toes and therefore help bunions

This procedure can be done under local anaesthetic as well as general anaesthesia.

Hammer Toe Surgery

Condition:  Hammer and mallet  toes
Length of Operation: 20-30 minutes
Recovery time: initially one week of limited walking in a post operative shoe. Followed by a gradual return to normal footwear.

Once conservative treatment has been tried, (shoe changes, insoles and protective padding) then surgical correction can be considered. Toes can be corrected by excisional arthroplasty that involves the removal of a small piece of toe bone to enable the toe sit down straight. This can be enhanced by other procedures as required.

These procedures are generally done under local anaesthetic.
